Academy Place is a 103-home mixed-income senior housing community in Houma that thoughtfully blends historic preservation with new construction. The development transformed a historic elementary school and its annex into modern apartment homes while adding a new three-story residential building, creating a unique community that honors the property’s history while meeting today’s housing needs.
Developed through a long-term ground lease with the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, Academy Place provides older adults with safe, high-quality housing in a centrally located neighborhood with convenient access to healthcare, shopping, community services, and public amenities.
The development was financed through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and funding from the Terrebonne Council on Aging. Academy Place reflects RNDC’s commitment to adaptive reuse, historic preservation, and the creation of sustainable housing communities that enhance quality of life for Louisiana seniors.
